What did eat yesterday?

How did you decide to eat, whatever it was you ate?

Did you eat it because it was the easiest thing to grab or was it a conscious decision to eat for health and nourishment?

When was the last time you really thought about what you’re eating? How it tastes, how it affects your body or where it came from.

I want you to take some time to reconnect with food.

Make an effort for the next few days to be conscious of when and what you are eating.  Stay away from restaurant food and prepackaged meals, instead create something, no matter how simple, in your own kitchen.   Don’t use any foods that are neon orange or bleached of their nutrients to be ascetically pleasing white.

Look for things that are close to their natural state. Choose foods that have ingredient lists with maybe 5 or so items. Or better yet, things that require no ingredient list at all- apples, bananas, almonds, eggs, milk, tuna, sweet potatoes, oats, beans and spinach.

Let go of the salt crutch and experiment with herbs. Let spices like pepper, curry and rosemary add flavor to eggs, beans or potatoes.

Eat slowly and consciously. Step away from the PC or the TV while you eat.  Instead find a nice spot in the sun to eat lunch or watch the sunrise while you eat breakfast and sip your morning tea. Take one bit at a time. Chew. Savor. Swallow.

Listen to your body as you try this new way of looking at food. Are you hungry less? Do you have more energy? Do you sleep better at night without the heartburn?

Food shouldn’t be a second thought in your life. Food is life and life should always come first.
