I hear a lot of should. I should be drinking more water. I should have gone for a run.

Should is about the past, something you cannot change. Instead I want you to tell me where you want to go and who you want to be.

I want you to look into the future and see the healthy and fit you that you deserve to be.

I call this your fitness vision. I will sometimes ask clients to sit down in a quiet place, clear their mind and start to visualize themselves in a year or two.  I ask them to visualize, in great detail, the payoff of their exercises efforts and nutrition changes.

I ask them to zoom in close on what they are doing, what they are wearing, who they are with and what they might be feeling. I want them to spend as long as it takes, crafting and refining the mental picture of themselves fit and healthy.

When they are done I ask them to hold this picture in their mind and use it as a guide in the choices they make each day. Whenever they are trying to decide whether to exercise or not, trying to put it off or make an excuse, I tell them to see that picture and ask themselves which choice will get them to that goal?

Crafting your fitness vision is just one more way to help you stay motivated and on track on your journey. Take a few minutes (or hours) today to sit quietly and visualize you when you have achieved your health and fitness goals.  Leave a comment and tell me, what do you see?
