I tell people all the time that exercise doesn’t have to mean spending hours in a gym or running miles each week.

Exercise, like anything else we do, can be managed in small chunks.

That’s why I decided to give 10 Minute Solution – Kickbox Bootcamp

a try.  The 10 Minute Solutions series promises multiple 10 minute workouts that you can mix and match as time allows. They have several titles in the series, but I like to kick and punch so I thought this boot camp would be fun to try.  Since I had the time, I did all 5 of the 10 minute workouts (basic training, lower body, upper body, cardio blast and washboard abs).

When I was done, I did indeed get a full body workout. Yet each individual session would have been a great quick exercise blast if all you had was 10 minutes.

What I Liked:

  • The abs section was my favorite. It included some of my go to core moves like plank holds and bicycle crunches.
  • Many moves were done in slow motion first and then sped up. Really good for the not so coordinated among us.
  • I learned a new burpee combo that I can’t wait to try out with my clients. One of my personal least favorite exercises but I still do them because they are so effective.
  • Good intensity for those on an intermediate level. The breaks between sessions make for good rest intervals.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Cool downs and warm ups have to speed up when you only have ten minutes. I think for me the Basic Training served as a good warm up, but I had to do more stretching on my own to cool down.
  • Some moves felt a little old school aerobics. Less side steps and more plyo please.
  • Upper body was not as challenging as lower body. Weighted punches are okay, but give me some pushups for a really good upper body blast.
  • Might be too challenging for beginners or those with balance issues.

I give this workout a 6. Good as a time saver, great ab workout but all in all could have been a bit more challenging, especially in the upper body work.  Have you tried any of the 10 Minute Solutions videos? Let me know what you think.
