When did you hear your first Christmas song this year? I am willing to bet you a cup of yerba mate that it was way too early.

For me it was before Halloween on Spotify. I was listening to one of my workout playlists when the powers that be decided to throw in Christmas in Hollis by Run-D.M.C.

My head whipped over to look at my iPhone to verify what was assaulting my ears. Then with a mental “hell no”, I skipped forward to something more appropriate for the gym and the season.

I have nothing against Christmas music at the right time (after Thanksgiving) in the right places (not in the gym). Welcome to Disco December. I’m taking last year’s Disco December playlist from Spotify and adding 5 new treasures for your workout. Here are your bonus tracks:

  • I Was Made For Loving You by Kiss: Disco era Kiss as a whole was not very good, but I love this one! Can someone put Paul Stanley under my tree?
  • Funkytown by Lipps Inc: Would it be bad if I said I really preferred the 80s cover by Pseudo Echo? I still like this version a lot but given my choice I would probably go with the cover. But this is a disco list not an 80s list.
  • Xanadu by Olivia Newton-John: This makes me want to decorate my tree with nothing but disco balls and headbands.
  • Got to Give It Up by Marvin Gaye: You know what I think of when I hear this song? The Charlie’s Angels movie with Drew Barrymore, Lucy Lu and Cameron Diaz. Weird, right?
  • Disco Inferno by Tina Turner: After Ike and before the movie, I love this version of the disco classic!

Tell me how you feel about Christmas music – in the gym or otherwise? Okay to start before Thanksgiving?
