Would it surprise you if I told you that I still haven’t attained my ideal body? Sure, I am happy with my body and proud of where I am and the progress I have made on this journey. But I also consider myself a work in progress and my goals and aspirations change as I go along.

I still have a few pounds of body fat I would like to lose.  So when Safely Slim

offered me a sample of their product to try, I said why not. SafelySlim is a shake that, while stimulant free, claims to help you burn more fat. Okay, I thought. No stimulants (which is what drives a lot of fat burners) and a protein shake that I can drink in place of my normal whey protein shake. I was willing to give it a try.

I am not normally a big supplement person. I take a multi vitamin and calcium. Recently I added Vitamin D to the lineup since I don’t get enough sun and live in the Midwest.  But I have never been one to load up on things like creatine or fat burners. Fat burners in particular I have found do little for most people. The real results for most of us come from hard work and eating right. Most fat burners are also full of things like caffeine, ma huang and other stimulants which create the jitters in some and can cause a crash and burn sort of response as well. Add to that the expense and possible dangerous ingredients in some (like ephedra) and I have lots of reasons to steer clear of most “fat burning” products.

One other supplement that I do believe in is a post workout whey protein shake. I do believe that is helps by providing quick nutrients when your body needs it and is ready to use them. So faithfully after every workout I drink my shake.

So I said okay, send me a box and I will use this shake in place of my normal post work out whey protein shake.  On my April 11 weigh in I was about 23.1% body fat.  Perfectly acceptable, but not quiet where I want to be.  My box of Safely Slim arrived on April 14. After doing a review of the ingredients, making sure I didn’t see anything that I didn’t want to see (the aforementioned stimulants) I deemed it safe to add to my routine in place of my normal protein shake.

for a bit.

First of all, it does taste very yummy! They sent me Double Rich Chocolate which I blended with just water.  It was tasty and filling. I gave some of my box to a couple of clients who agreed with my taste assessment. They really enjoyed it too and wanted to know where they could get more. Always a good sign when clients ask for more.

Second, part of what makes this shake so filling is the 10 grams of fiber. Yes, you read correctly. 10 grams of fiber! I find that when someone is cutting calories they struggle with getting enough fiber. This is especially true for those starting their journey. They are still learning to incorporate more veggies and whole grains into their diet and can come up on the short end of things when it comes to fiber intake. Getting 10 grams of fiber in your post workout shake is a huge bonus and something I really love about this product.

So for the last 3 ½ weeks (at the time of writing this) I have been consistently drinking SafelySlim post workout. At my last weigh in on May 9 my body fat came in at 22.6%. Can I say, without a shadow of a doubt, that SafelySlim caused by body fat to lower? Since I am a horrible scientist I cannot.  Around the same time I switched my regular shake for SafelySlim I also started a new workout program and I am eating below my maintenance calorie level. I am also working very hard to reduce stress (more on that in a future post).  So it could be any or all of the things I changed that helped to facilitate my drop in body fat. I do believe that your biggest results come from hard work and clean eating.  What I can say is SafelySlim tastes good and can fit into anyone’s nutrition program as a great post workout shake. Perhaps it can also provide a slight boost on top of diet and exercise. Also did I mention the 10 grams of fiber per serving? Again, huge bonus.
