• Body Beautiful by Salt-N-Pepa: Whatever the mind can conceive you will achieve.
• American Bad Ass by Kid Rock:  Sometimes I need to feel like a bad ass. At least for a minute when no one is looking.
• Shirley by L7: Almost there and you are winning!
• I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor: You can survive those intervals. You can do anything for 30 seconds!
• Physical by Olivia Newton-John: Time to take it down and cool it down. Hope it was an awesome workout.

Christmas music, in my opinion, makes terrible workout music.  The best workout music? Disco. So I choose to celebrate the season with my annual Disco December playlist.  Give you ears a break while you work the rest of your body with these booty shaking 70s tunes.

• Rock the Boat by The Hues Corporation: I hear this song and I actually think of the movie Carlito’s Way. I love a good shoot’em up.
• Ladies Night by Kool and the Gang: Another movie highlight, John Lovitz is hilarious doing this song in the Wedding Singer.
• You’re The First, The Last, My Everything by Barry White: How can you not be motivated to move to this song?
• I’m Coming Out by Diana Ross and The Supremes: Until I was working on the playlist I had no idea this was the Supremes. Honest truth.
• Funkytown by Lipps Inc: Would it be bad if I said I really preferred the 80s cover by Pseudo Echo? I still like this version a lot but given my choice I would probably go with the cover. But this is a disco list not an 80s list.
• Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel by Tavares: When I hear a Tavares song I picture myself on a lighted disco floor in a flowing dress dancing the spotlight dance. Perhaps I have shared too much.
• Macho Man by Village People: Which reminds me, what happened to my vintage Village People poster? I need to put that up in my office.
• Night Fever/More Than a Woman (live) by Bee Gees: An awesome mash up before we knew what a mash up was.
• You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) by Sylvester: I always think of the movie 54 when I hear this song. Best Mike Myers role ever.
• Never Can Say Goodbye by Gloria Gaynor:  Last song, say goodbye to your workout. Just for today.

• Lighters by Bad Meets Evil: Parisians apparently love American music. This song (in various versions) was playing everywhere I went in Paris. It grew on me.
• Rock Star City Life by Lenny Kravitz: I usually hit the airwaves on a Tuesday morning on Alice 95.5. Tuesdays are also the day they showcase the new music.  I knew this one was going on the list the moment I heard it.
• Mercy by Duffy: Not that new, but I was reminded of her the other day. The song I heard I didn’t really like, but it prompted me to pull this one out.
• Oh, Pretty Woman by Chris Isaak: I love NPR. He was talking about his new album of Sun Records songs. This song, in all its versions, has always been a favorite.
• Princess Of China by Coldplay: This is the first Coldplay song on a playlist. Just not as enamored with them the way everyone else is.
• What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) by Kelly Clarkson: The first always does the best. I don’t know if any other American Idol winners will ever compare.
• Call Your Girlfriend by Robyn: Saw her on the Ellen Show recently. Pink light?
• The Immigrant Song by Trent Reznor: I love the book and original movie of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Please don’t let them completely screw it up with an American version of the movie.
• Breed by Nirvana: Technically not new. But the 20^th anniversary edition of Nevermind just came out. Yes, I feel old.
• Bass Down Low by Dev: I’ve been playing with Pandora again recently. I think this one came on my Pussycat Dolls station.

• Resistance by Muse: I’ll admit their music is sort of new to me. I know, I’m behind. But I’m trying to catch up.
• Crushcrushcrush by Paramore: This isn’t the vampire movie song right? Because I’ve never seen those movies and, like my vow about Titanic, I won’t see them either.
• I Wanna Go by Britney Spears: She’s 30. Who else feels old?
• Sexy And I Know It by LMFAO: Right Said Fred for the new millennium
• One More Time by Daft Punk: Not super new, but within the last 10 years is good enough for me.
• Show Me How You Burlesque by Christina Aguilera: No one is getting any Academy Awards for this movie but it had a great soundtrack.
• Rock That Body by The Black Eyed Peas: Sort of missing the Duchess, wish she would do another solo album.
• The World Is Mine by David Guetta: Sounds like the perfect spin class song to me.
• My Body by Young the Giant: I thought about doing a vanity/body themed playlist. Maybe next month?
• Skinny Little Bitch by Hole: Love the sound, just wish Courtney would learn how to play nice.

It started out well enough. I heard the new Maroon 5 song “Moves Like Jagger” and knew it had to be on the playlist for September. Off to a great start, I made the decision that all the songs on the playlist would be new.

For a child of the 80s, that turned out to be a pretty tough assignment.

So let’s just say that the songs on the playlist are at least from within the last decade. That seems fair enough. They are fun, will keep you moving and are, well, sort of new.

• Blow by Kei$ha: Isn’t that the Dawson’s Creek guy in the video? And what’s up with the unicorns?
• Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5: I always forget how much I like Maroon 5 till a song like this comes on, slaps me in the face and tells me to get out of my chair.
• Don't Stop The Party by The Black Eyed Peas: They may be tied with the Pussycat Dolls for most appearances on my playlists.
• Turn Around by Flo Rida and Pitbull: Flo Rida is an inconsistent artist. But when he gets it, he really gets it.
• Where Them Girls At (Feat. Nicki Minaj & Flo Rida) by David Guetta with Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida: I didn’t mean to have 2 Flo Rida appearances. But if the music is good no reason to fight it.
• Enjoy The Silence by Amberlin: Just a little punchier than the Depeche Mode original. I like it.
• In My Arms by Kylie Minogue: Deal with the devil. She hasn’t aged since she did the locomotion.
• More by Usher: Is he still acting or did he decide to stick with music? Not everyone can be Will Smith.
• Only Girl by Rhianna: One word: sasstastic!
• Dance 2night by Madonna: My one way to include just a little bit of the 80s in this list.

Sometimes the world tries to tell a girl what she can’t or can’t do just because she is a girl. I hate it when I overhear a little boy tell his younger sister she has to do “girl pushups”.  Makes me want to drop and give him 20.  Or when girls are encouraged to play nicely and not get dirty. The stuff that’s often the most fun makes us a sweaty and dirty mess!  A woman can do anything she sets her mind to; I always have and always will believe that.

This month’s playlist is an ode to girl power.  No, there isn’t any Spice Girls on this list. It is however a list of women who have worked hard and did it on their own terms, for better or for worse.

• Better Be Good To Me by Tina Turner:  The first time I saw What’s Love Got to Do With It, I think I cried through half of it. Then I came to appreciate her strength.
• I'm Every Woman by Whitney Houston: I sincerely hope she gets it together.
• She Works Hard For The Money by Donna Summer: Doesn’t every woman?
• Deeper And Deeper by Madonna: She has built a legacy that I don’t know if any woman in music can ever touch.
• Judas by Lady Gaga: She may try but I don’t think she will make it for decades like our dear lady Madonna.
• Are You Gonna Move It For Me? by The Donnas: The female Ramones. I love it!
• Cherry Bomb by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts: Maybe her first foray into rock wasn’t on her terms but she learned a lot. She’s been keeping it real ever since.
• Strong Enough by Cher: Strong beyond belief and always reinventing herself.
• Let's Get Loud by J. Lo:  From Fly Girl, to actress, to singer, to producer. She can do it all.
• Never by Heart: Never let them shoot us down!

• Gettin' Jiggy Wit It by Will Smith: No longer the Fresh Prince, no longer putting out music as far as I know.
• Girlfriend by Pebbles: I loved this song even when I was too young to really understand what it was about.
• 100% Pure Love by Crystal Waters: This song was always always always in the commercials on TV for those compilation CDs of 90s dance music.  Did anyone else ever buy those things?
• Looking For A New Love by Jodi Watley: I really wanted to be able to pull off her look in 5^th grade. Didn’t happen.
• Pump Up The Jam by Technotronic: You cannot sit still when this song comes on. I dare you!
• Atomic Dog by George Clinton: The bow wow wow part gets stuck in my head. Once it’s in it won’t leave for days.
• Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) by C+C Music Factory:  Great music, sad they had to be a victim of the lip syncing scandal.
• None Of Your Business by Salt N Peppa:  When I was younger, with a bit of a chip on my shoulder, this was my theme song.  Good thing I mellowed out.
• Too Legit To Quit by Hammer: Is he still too legit after his reality show?
• This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan: I actually don’t remember being a lower case g?

• My Love (Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso Mix) by Justin Timberlake: I think you can find a remix of pretty much every Justin Timberlake song.
• Somebody's Watching Me (Hi_Tack Club Mix) by Rockwell: Thought it was MJ, didn’t you?
• Don't Cha (Ralphi's Hot Freak Radio Mix) by The Pussycat Dolls: Never fail, I will find a way to put them on the playlist.
• Dragula [Hot Rod Herman Remix] by Rob Zombie: Pretty cool song to begin with, remix only made it better.
• S&M (DJ Mast Remix) by Rhianna: I somehow don’t get enough Rhianna on my playlists. Something to work on in the future.
• Little Bird (Utah Saintsremix/edit) by Annie Lennox: I think Annie Lennox is one of the coolest singer/songwriters ever.
• Atomic (Diddy Remix) by Blondie: Punk? Disco? Who cares, love them no matter what you call them.
• I Can’t Go For That (Hoax Mix) by Hall & Oats: This is the best they’ve ever sounded.

Here is your new American Idol playlist!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Actually, I haven’t watched American Idol for many seasons. Maybe it’s gotten too predictable. Maybe I just don’t have the time. But I do know there is actually a lot of great American Idol music. Obviously you’ve got some very talented contestants (although not always the winners) but you also have some pretty talented and accomplished judges.  All in all, all the ingredients you need for great playlist.

• I Don't Need A Man by The Pussycat Dolls: Performed by PCD, but written by Kara DioGuardi. Of course I had to find a way to have PCD on the list.
• Spotlight (Moto Blanco Club Mix) by Jennifer Hudson: Proof that winning isn’t everything. Unless you mean winning an Oscar.
• On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez: Fantastic but I say she will only be on AI one season.
• I Do Not Hook Up by Kelly Clarkson: The original American Idol, love the song but still don’t really get it.
• If I Had You by Adam Lambert: Sorry but he should have won. Sometimes the audience gets it wrong.
• Dance Like There's No Tomorrow by Paula Abdul: I hope it’s okay to have Paula twice. Hard to pick between new Paula and old Paula.
• F.I.N.E. by Aerosmith: It’s better if you don’t know what it stands for.
• Ain't No Other Man by Christian Aguilera: Another one co-written by Kara DioGuardi. It’s a shame that it appears Christina has finally gone off the deep end.
• Holiday by Alison Iraheta: Oddly enough I think she was having breakfast one table over from me the morning after Lilith Fair last summer.
• My Love Is For Real by Paula Abdul: Old school Paula.

• Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode: You don’t know how close I was to putting on the Marilyn Manson version.

• Here And Now by Letters to Cleo: This song actually has some emotional baggage tied to it for me, but I think I’m past it enough to put it on a playlist.
• Highway 90 by Jane Jensen: I had the pleasure of seeing her live. Great show!
• Stay by Shakespeare’s Sister: Dark but moving. Great cool down song.
