I normally don’t hit the gym while I am on vacation. Even when I signed up for the OxyChallenge, I didn’t plan on working out while we are in Peru. The Ultimate Oxygen Challenge is 90 days but the workout program is only 12 weeks. That meant there was even a bonus week off built in for me.

Now that I am right in the middle of the program and having so much fun in the gym, I don’t want to stop. I love the changes I’m feeling and seeing. We’re lifting “big” this month, trying to gain muscle. (Which, by the way, is harder than it sounds.) Big is also a relative term. I don’t have a Smith Machine or a squat rack, but I am reaching for dumbbells and weight plates bigger than I’ve challenge myself with in a long time. I am loving every minute of how strong it is making me feel.

While I hit the hotel gym, I’ll be listening to a new weightlifting workout playlist in the gym. It’s all about riotous girl power and strong women who rock. If you’re a lady who loves to lift – big or otherwise – I think you’ll like my playlist. If you’re about 40, read Sassy magazine and watched Alternative Nation you’ll love it!

  • Celebrity Skin by Hole: Oh make me over…
  • Dirty Deeds by Joan Jett: Not my first choice but you can’t find Do You Want To Touch Me anywhere!
  • Connection by Elastica: You know you want to bounce around between sets to the rhythm.
  • Cherry Bomb by the Runaways: The original Riot Grrls.
  • I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone by Sleater Kinney: You may know Carrie Brownstein from Portlandia and Transparent but this is how I came to love her.
  • Take It Off by the Donnas: Speaking of the Ramones, none of them are actually named Donna.
  • Seether by Veruca Salt: I saw them live, maybe in 1995. That girl wouldn’t even recognize this girl.
  • Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani: Just on the cusp, I call her an honorary Riot Grrl.
  • Bruise Violet by Babes in Toyland: True story….I paid a guy $5 to steal Kat’s sweat towel off the stage after a show. I think I still have it.
  • Diet Pill by L7: The irony isn’t lost. I love it.
